Three Sisters Oracle
A Zine by Ben and Tony Cook
The Three Sisters Oracle is a zine designed to inspire storytellers with over 40,000 narrative possibilities. It was inspired by the work of Georges Polti, a 19th-century French author renowned for his identification of 36 dramatic situations prevalent in storytelling.
Moreover, the narrative categories within the oracle find their basis in research conducted by Fabio Veglia and Giulia Di Fini at the University of Turin, Italy. They proposed the existence of six fundamental Life Themes - Love, Worth, Power, Justice, Truth, and Freedom - that contribute to the creation of self-image and our understanding of our world. These themes recur in stories across time and cultures, suggesting their universal relevance and providing themes that are naturally compelling.
The titular "Three Sisters" reference finds its roots in the lore of Greek mythology, specifically, the fabled Three Sisters of Fate, renowned for weaving destinies on their cosmic loom. The unique visualization of the sisters and the illustrations throughout this zine come for Ben's vivid and somewhat disturbed imagination.
